Maggie Carle

Maggie Carle lives on an island in Casco Bay, east of Portland, Maine.

Her innovative techniques of interweaving, layering, incorporating natural and found objects allows each element to have its own capricious vitality. Once fused together, they present the ambiance of living on a Maine island, close to the land and sea. A nurturing spirituality is felt in each piece.

Her artistic agglomerations include sculptured portals, collaged agapes, musing mobiles, window vistas, and accent decore.

Besides developing a unique form of visual art, Maggie Carle has also originated a program called "ART-SPRITS", an innovative opportunity for celebrating self-expression through visual, musical, and dramatic activities.

Maggie plays the autoharp, sings original and traditional folk songs as the LYRIC MINSTREL.

Artist Statement:

There are many symbols or icons
in my work.
These are my explanation,
not necessarily your
interpretation.

The VESSEL is my journey, on
course and a boat to “fish,”
because I can.

WINGS are my flight, my dance,
Personal exuberance and
expression.

The STAR as in the starfish,
is natural renewal, or
in the sky, is guidance.

Open or empty spaces are
PORTALS. Open to light, to
listening, an open heart, and
asking your vista to
complete the art as you see it.

And the ARTSPRIT... my logo,
Is leading, reaching out,
asking in. A dancers pose, both.
beginning and a thankful bow.

“Living at the sea’s edge
Where life renews in guided tides,
I become and bequeath
Before each dawn and dawn, again.
Humbly, I receive and reassemble
That which I reaffirm.
Wonder! Celebration! & Faith.
